BIG Furniture Design: Voxel modular sofa that can be freely flipped and assembledTime:2023-12-12 16:12:00
Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) architectural design office has launched a new work! This time, I designed a sofa called "Voxel" for the Common Seating furniture brand from Denmark. Voxel is designed with "modularity" in mind, emphasizing on being lightweight, movable and even reversible.
The BIG design team looked for inspiration in many unexpected places, from the pixelated style of Minecraft and games like Q*bert to the modernist architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, all of which brought them new ideas. ideas and inspiration.
With the theme of "flexible application", the Voxel sofa system can be moved, repaired, turned over, and modules can be added or removed at will. BIG has designed a total of 4 modules: armrests, backrests, seat cushions and chair legs, and the combinations are very versatile. The Voxel sofa is also more environmentally friendly due to its modular design. When the sofa is damaged, only the damaged modules need to be repaired. If it needs to be replaced, there is no need to discard the entire sofa, and it can be replaced partially.
